Beyoncé is full of surprises. Not only is she in her act ii era, but just one day after catching guests of the Luar fashion show off-guard, Queen Bey is now gracing the cover of ESSENCE for its March/April 2024 issue—and for the first time since 2011.
The jaw-dropping announcement came on Wednesday (Feb. 14). The publication released the official cover shot of the “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” singer with her honey blonde tresses wrapped around her neck like a scarf on Instagram and Twitter with the headline, “Beyoncé Knowles-Carter and the legacy of Black hair − and her latest venture.”
Many have noticed that the cover is akin to Naomi Sims’ 1969 cover of LIFE.
The reveal comes days before the launch of Bey’s new hair care line, CÉCRED. Described as the intersection between science and ritual, the line appears to be inclusive for all genders and hair textures.
In a special message to potential customers, the mother of three wrote, “It has always been a dream of mine to create a hair care line. That’s why I’m so proud to share CÉCRED, which celebrates and honors the wisdom in our hair. I’m excited that you are now part of this community and can help to build an intimate and powerful space where we can share our journeys, our hair secrets, and protect all things sacred.”
She first teased the new business venture in May of 2023, not long after the start of the RENAISSANCE WORLD TOUR.
CÉCRED was inspired by the days of working in her mother, Tina’s beauty salon and witnessing “how the ways we nurture and celebrate hair can directly impact our souls.”
“Having learned so much on my hair journey, I’ve always dreamed of carrying on her legacy,” Bey wrote on Instagram.
CÉCRED will be available on Feb. 20. The Beyonce issue of ESSENCE, meantime, is available on Amazon.
